答案 Pencils Pencils are a simple instrument used by different people. Students use them to draw and write. Painters use them to make sketches and outlines. Designers use them to figure and chart. They are convenient to use. The marks they have made are easily erased with a rubber. A pencil is cylindrical in shape. It is a little shorter but slightly thicker than a Chinese chopstick. A very light object, it is about seven inches in length and one fourth inch in thickness. The main body of a pencil is a wooden shaft. The shaft contains a thin stick of black substance called graphite core, the hardness of which varies in different degrees. One end of the shaft is a rubber eraser. The other end is cut into a point.
