New York is the place in the United States which most visiors see and the city that is most often described. In New York, you would hear the phrase "New York is not American", and, of course, you would like to see more of the country. You look at the map and choose what region to start with. You remember from history book that when the United States was formed, there were only thirteen states. There were thirteen colonies which in 1776 had declared their independence from Great Britain and fought a seven year War of Independence. The thirty-seven other states were admitted to the nation one by one, as they gained enough population. The last to come in were Alaska and Hawaii.
