    The school was a long way from his home, so Simon’s mother took him to school in the morning, and left him at the school gate (校门口). "Enjoy yourself, Simon," she said, "and be a good boy."
    In the afternoon, she went back to the school to pick him up.
    "Did you enjoy your first day at school?" she asked her son.
    "No, and I won’t come back here again."
    "What’s the matter?" she asked him. "Has someone been unkind to you?"
    "No," he answered.
    "Then tell me the reason," his mother said.
    "All right. I can’t read. I can’t write. I can’t spell (拼写). I can’t do. And the teacher won’t let me talk. What’s the use of going to school when I can’t do anything here?"
