W: I’ve been invited to a cocktail party at 5:30. I need to buy some gift for my friend. Do you know somewhere I can get some fresh flowers?
M: Just over there, near the post office. But you told me if invited to a party, you’d better plan to arrive between a half-hour and an hour late. Why are you in such a hurry?
W: But not a cocktail party. It’s generally set for specific hours, say from 5:30 to 7:30.
M: What’s a cocktail party like?
W: Alcoholic beverages and hors d’oeuvres.
M: Only that?
W: Yes. People usually don’t get dinner at a cocktail party.
M: Why do you have such a party?
W: It’s called by some of my colleagues to celebrate the New Year.
M: To celebrate the New Year! Why not have a dinner party?
W: Dinner party is so formal for us. We just take it for relaxation. And then some of us may go to a pub.
M: For what? You don’t celebrate the New Year with your family?
W: We just drink and chat. Anyway, New Year is a special day and I only celebrated New Year with my family when I was a little girl.
M: It’s really fantastic. But you’d better get moving, or you’ll be late.
