In addition, organizations which work toward a specific goal, such as passing legislation or improving a neighborhood, allow people to achieve that goal more efficiently by working together. Finally, some organizations provide special benefits that are reserved for members, for example a music or book club in which the members exchange materials or receive special discounts. Most organizations also provide personal benefits, the most important of which is a sense of belonging. When people choose to ally themselves with a group, that becomes part of their identity. In the group, they can find people of like-minded interests and feel like part of a team. This gives the members both companionship and the opportunity to share their feelings with sympathetic listeners. Moreover, trying out different groups enables people to discover their interests and clarify their goals. Through this process they can find out where they best fit in. In conclusion, organizations and informal groups of people are important in our lives because they provide us with many advantages. They help us clarify our goals and interests and find the support we need to pursue them effectively. More importantly, they give us companionship and a sense of belonging.
