Australia has said that it won’t send a group of Sri Lankan asylum seekers back to their home country if they are ’at risk of persecution. The 83 Sri Lankan Tamil men were intercepted by the Australian Navy last week on their way to Australia from Indonesia. Australia has a policy of keeping potential asylum seekers away from the mainland and now has to decide whether to send them back to Indonesia, to Sri Lanka or to an offshore processing camp in the South Pacific. Sri Lanka says the men have no reason to fear being repatriated.
