答案
Is It Farewell to the Printed Book? When Steven King published his book Riding the Bullet in March, 2000, around two million people downloaded it from the Internet within hours. It was the first time that an electronic book had made a hit, and it produced a great impact on the publishing industry. An electronic book, or e-book, is simply a version of a book that allows you to store and display it digitally. There are already thousands of classic and best-selling titles available on websites such as ebooks. com. E-book technology allows you to carry around a whole library in a small unit. You can also highlight a word to bring up its definition so that you can find the meanings of individual words easily and you can enlarge the word size if you have poor eyesight. In fact, e-book readers are being developed for people who are visually impaired. Another advantage is that it lets you buy books in segments and carry them around easily, which should appeal to students, who are carrying heavy bags to school every day. In fact, some universities are planning to give hand-held devices to all their students to help them in their studies. Despite all this, the current e-book readers are unlikely to replace printed books completely. It is not time to say farewell to printed books, because people are used to the printed word and some people feel uneasy sitting in front of the screen. For them, e-books are more difficult to read and e-books can not be as attractive as the printed word. However, I am confident that e-books will enjoy more and more popularity among students and more and more people will be attracted by e-books with the development of electronic technology.
