[1]Just because a toy’s packaging says it’s educational doesn’t make it so. That’s the finding from a new study in JAMA Pediatrics that found some toys being marketed as language promoters got in the way of learning.
Research shows that for kids to understand, speak and eventually read or write a language, they need to hear it—lots of it. And it’s never too early for parents and caregivers to get talking. That explains the booming industry in talking electronic toys that claim to help kids learn language. [2]The study focused on roughly two-dozen children between the ages of 10 and 16 months old.
Researchers outfitted them with little microphones tucked into special vests or shirts that could record the infants playing at home with Mom or Dad.
1. What’s the finding of the new study in JAMA Pediatrics?
2. How many children does the research focus on?
选项
A、Roughly 10.
B、About 16.
C、Roughly 12.
D、About 24.
答案
D
解析
选项均为数字,可推断本题为数字题。新闻提到研究的对象是年龄在10到16个月的24个孩子,故答案为D。这道题主要考的是dozen的用法,录音中提到roughly two-dozen children,因为a dozen是12个,two dozen就是24个了。
