答案 As can be easily seen in the picture, a small green tree is growing vigorously in the bright sunshine, yet there is a long shadow behind it. Simple as it is, the symbolic meaning the picture conveys is deep and profound. Just as the caption goes, where there is sunlight, there is a shadow. A good case in point is the quick development of Chinese economy and the environmental problems it causes. It is universally acknowledged that the Chinese economy has been growing rapidly in the past 20 years, bringing sunshine to our life. However, the rapid development also casts its shadow on our life—our land, water, and air have been seriously polluted. In some areas the negative effects on the natural environment are so severe that people have to move to other places. Therefore, we are heading for an environmental crisis if we do nothing to change it. Admitting the coexistence of sunshine and shadow does not mean we should let mother nature run its course. Instead, we should take strong actions to solve the problem. If a light is lit in a shadow, the shadow will surely be dissipated. The same holds true with the environmental problem. If each and every one of us, particularly the government officials, pays due attention to the problem of pollution, and takes effective measures to stop it, our land, water and air can be clean again. Only in this way can our economy develop at high speed without compromising the environment.
