Heavy mist has become a headache to big cities, especially Beijing. 1 Drinking water pollution is afflicting both cities and villages, for example, groundwater in a village in He Bei province turning red and 16000 dead pigs threatening Shanghai’s drinking water supply. People’s health suffers greatly due to the deteriorating environment. Diagnoses of respiratory disease are obviously increasing among city residents. 1 An increasing number of cancer villages are discovered throughout China. It is racial suicide to develop economy at the expense of the environment. For the sake of us and our descendents, environmental consciousness must be cultivated and sustainable development must be promoted.
